As a market agency based in the heart of Central London we have the pleasure of working with some of the brightest and hard working entrepreneurs and business people across the United Kingdom.

London is such a UK and international business hub with entrepreneurs and business people descending on the capital to drive their businesses forward, through growing revenues and attracting new funding for their ideas and growth plans. Our agency works with such a diverse set of these business people, we recognise the consistent traits in these business movers and shakers.

One thing that must be noted that these movers and shakers don’t have to be 26 and running a start up to be entrepreneurial or great in the business world. We work with many people within large organisations that are very creative/dynamic and run huge business units with million pound revenues and importance.

So, we have the unique position to work with both of these types of people, entrepreneurs and business people operating in both startups and big organisations, which is also makes our marketing services fresh and relevant. Often a start up can learn from a blue chip organisation in driving aspects such as creativity and innovation while in some cases a start up can also learn a great deal from a blue chip. The ability of blue chip organisations to co ordinate large workforces and streamline processes are all tremendous attributes that can be shared with smaller businesses. Our aim is make our marketing relevant at all times to the different audiences through understanding the marketing and business development qualities in both.

With all this interesting insight we have identified our key attributes of a great business person. If this inspires one more person into the business world then it will be a worthwhile article to share our ongoing insights.

  1. Determination

This had to be our number one attribute. The business world is tough and you have to remember that the ability to focus on your goals in a very determined fashion is what sets the best from the rest. On a daily basis we see this in operation, being determined doesn’t mean being hard it means being clear on their vision and very resilent in their commitment to hitting their objectives. We notice that both on a personal and business level that goal setting is fundamental to these successful people. Every great business person has realised the need to go the extra mile to make a difference in their industry or client base.

  1. Thinking outside the box

The best people in business always have a new approach to a problem or situation. This creativity to think of new strategies be it commercial or from an operational point of view means that they deliver the best outcomes for their customers and clients. It is easy to write this down but in the heat of a business critical situation the ability to think differently to rest is what shows to us that the person can grow a business or an idea. So many people give up when they are getting very near to solving, the best in our opinion are relentless in making a problem into a solution instead of the other way round. Be smart, think smart.

  1. Being team but being a leader

The best business people that walk into our office are the ones that work well within a team and with their partners but also know the direction they want to go. They might not known exactly how but they can get the best out of their teams. Working in a team requires a open mindset but an inner strength to make sure the ship sails to the treasure island. All the great ships in the world need a great crew. A leader is one that gets the best from their team and motivates, inspires and leads at all times. Some of the CEO’s we have had the pleasure of working with over the years work with us in a very team orientated way which gets the best from us. We feel part of the team and therefore able to add more value by sharing challenges and adding our creativity to marketing and sales/brand objectives.

  1. Eye on the prize

The best business people in business know what great looks like, not good. They will not let go of this and make sure that the trival matters don’t impact the big goals of their businesses. Sounds easy but with so much digital distraction we notice that the best can prioritise better than the rest. We notice that efforts are qualified before energy wasted, this eye on the prize means that they get the best from their time in order to achieve the desired outcomes.

  1. Ability to learn

We all make mistakes but the best we work with make sure it doesn’t happen again. This is achieved through understanding what they are doing and constantly reviewing their approaches. What works, what does? If it works then best press the repeat button on the methodology quicker than their competitors. Self improvement is a big part of this and apart from people achieving qualifications and being excellent in their roles also embark on a additional training/seminars to get the best from themselves. The best business people want to develop, by developing themselves they develop their businesses and relationships. This is a key area and we encourage all our team to become experts in their fields, with so much information and access to great people the world is your Oyster. Perhaps that’s why the London Underground tube card was called an Oyster card, the best make the effort to try new things and learn.

  1. Mentors or someone you respect

This one area we notice is a consistent feature of our meetings around business strategy. The best business people often spend time with people they respect, some call them mentors, some call them friends but essentially if you spend time with the people you respect you will develop. This doesn’t have to be a business person, a manager of a tennis team or football team can offer something different, often sports or recreational activities can provide the refresh on our points above. Our office PT who comes in to train us certainly knows about determination.

To discover more on what makes a great businessperson we suggest you become one. When you need a great marketing agency we will be here to be part of your team. 🙂
